Novel Development for the use of Microsoft Pixelsense in Neuro-Rehabilitation
The aim of the project is to develop an innovative software system with detection of vulnerable objects for use by Microsoft Pixelsense in the field of therapy. This should correspond to the therapeutic needs and provide the integration of existing therapeutic approaches. Above all, they should use the benefits of Microsoft Pixelsense in order to create a value for the patient and the therapist.
Motivation
Worldwide 15 million people suffer a stroke in a year - in addition to strokes, traumatic brain injury (TBI) as a result of e.g. traffic accidents are the leading cause of physical and neurological disabilities. With the help of computer programs patients with brain-damages can gain lost skills in rehabilitation. However, the standard PC has its limitations in therapy environments.
The fun.tast.tisch consortium disposes over the necessary complementary skills, medical technologists and therapeutic knowledge, software development know-how in the area of Natural User Interfaces (NUI), methodological skills and many years of project management and experience. The close collaboration with other partners, such as hospitals and Microsoft Austria brings the project development a great value when it comes to market acceptance.
Objectives
- In particular, functional deficits of patients are analyzed and determined through the novel application of Microsoft Pixel Sense. Additional value is obtained by criteria such direct interaction, multi touch, multi user, table design and object recognition.
- Thus therapeutic application possibilities and especially requirements of therapists and patients for this software system are determined.
- Training modules are going to be developed for the software system.
- Another goal is to submit a pilot study in evaluation of prototypes to the ethics commission.
