LifeACE / Project completed
Medical technology for people with disabilities
The aim of this project is to develop an intelligent wireless computer mouse that can only be operated by mouth and has all the clinical and hygienic requirements for use in clinics and rehabilitation facilities. The wireless PC connection can also significantly increase the mobility of users in power wheelchairs.
Motivation
All of a sudden, a traffic accident in 2003, which was not his fault, changed the life of Martin H. in Perg from the ground up: Paraplegia is the diagnosis. Today Martin lives in a barrier-free house and has made a name for himself as an expert for computers, laptops and the like. With the patented IntegraMouse® from LifeTool, which is certified as a medical device and has won several international awards, Martin H. controls his computer only with his mouth and types as fast as any other computer user.
The "Life ACE" consortium, newly formed in September with funds from the national structural support programme COIN, combines the competences of the companies Abatec Electronics AG, Beneder Werkzeugbau GmbH, Ottinger EMV Consulting, LifeTool gemeinnützige GmbH and AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH. COIN is a joint initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth (BMWFJ) and the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT).
Goals
The goal of "Life ACE" is to further develop high-quality LifeTool medical technology products such as the IntegraMouse® in a multidisciplinary team involving people with disabilities along the entire value chain in Upper Austria.
Different strengths are used here: LifeTool gemeinnützige GmbH contributes the needs and requirements of people with disabilities, while the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology contributes its know-how on regulatory aspects or Abatec Electronics AG uses its in-house future workshop for all design questions and drives hardware development. Beneder Werkzeugbau GmbH will contribute and further develop competences in injection moulding technology in the "Life ACE" consortium, while Ottinger EMV Consulting will contribute testing competences for the approval of "Life ACE" medical technology products.
