FlashWords AAC is an application for the Early Reading method which is successfully applied in the education of children with a delayed development that also affects speech development (e.g. Down Syndrom). The main goal is to support the speech development.

FlashWords AAC for iPad is available in two versions:

  • FlashWords AAC: Only a limited number of exercises can be used. An In-App Purchase is required in order to use all exercises.
  • FlashWords AAC PRO: All exercises can be used without limitation.

FlashWords AAC for Windows: All exercises can be used without limitation. The application may be tested for free.

The application is based on the concept described in the series Small Steps, Early Reading. This Early Intervention Program was developed by the Special Education Center, at the Macquarie University in Sydney. Under their point of view reading is only a positive side effect.

The application contains the basic exercise Learn Words for acquiring new words and five exercises to consolidate the acquired words.

You can define the words that will be learned and adapt the application to the user. Thousands of speech recordings are provided, but you can also use your own recordings.

The acquired words are collected in a list, documenting the learning progress.

To enable the use of this application with several people, a user manager is offered. Individual word lists and settings will be saved and can be loaded quickly.

The exercises can be operated by alternative input devices such as external switches or eye trackers.
